Toxic Plants and Flowers for Pets

With spring just around the corner, many of us are eager to enjoy the warmer weather by spending more time outdoors or bringing a touch of spring indoors with a vibrant bouquet of flowers or house plants.

However, as pet owners, it’s important to remember that some of these plants and flowers can be toxic to our beloved cats and dogs. To help keep our furry friends safe this season, below is a list of flowers and plants that can potentially pose a threat to our pets:

Toxic Flowers and Plants for Cats and Dogs

Although many of these flowers are springtime staples in many bouquets, they unfortunately contain toxins that if ingested can cause moderate to severe health issues in your pets, such as gastrointestinal upset, drooling, vomiting and, in severe cases, kidney failure, heart disease and respiratory issues in pets.

Don’t worry – you don’t have to completely give up your beautiful flower displays!

There are many pet-friendly plant and flower alternatives that you can safely include in all your spring floral arrangements.

Safe Flowers and Plants for Cats and Dogs

If you find yourself unsatisfied with these alternatives and still crave the aesthetic of a Peace Lily or Tulip, faux plants are an excellent option that will give you your desired look, while ensuring the safety of your pets.

By being mindful of the flowers and plants you bring into your home and garden, you can create a safe and beautiful environment for both you and your pets. Here’s to a happy and pet-safe spring!

If you believe your pet may have ingested a toxic flower or plant, please contact our Companion Animal Hospital or your local animal hospital to get them the help they need!

Due to Hurricane Hilary, all  departments will be closing at 3pm today.  Stay safe!
