Helen Woodward Animal Center PAWdres Send Best Wishes to Our San Diego Padres!

Center Orphan Pups Named to Honor Hometown Heroes and Celebrate This Weekend’s Play-Off Games…

Rancho Santa Fe, CA (Oct. 14, 2022) – Tonight, the Padres are returning to a fan-filled Petco Park for the first postseason home game in San Diego since 2006, and Helen Woodward Animal Center PAWdres are all a-WAG! These pups understand the players’ effort to win the Division Series and head on to the Championship because the Paw Squad is chasing the same ball. They are playing their best game and trying to get to their Championship – a Forever Home. Center orphan pups have taken on baseball nicknames to honor hometown heroes and this weekend’s big playoffs, with plenty of ball-playing parties thrown in to celebrate.

With over 70 available orphan pups on site, the race to get to “home base” has never had more meaning.  Helen Woodward Animal Center’s adoption staff is hoping to capture the enthusiasm of San Diego sports fans by bestowing b-ball nicknames on some of the Center’s most beloved pups.    “Slider” Soloman, “Fastball” Dante, “Grand Slam” Gracie, “Change Up” Chance, “Curveball” King Julian, “At-Bat” Atlas, “Batter” Blue, “Pitcher” Peaches, “Slugger” Simon, along with Friar, Faithful, Java Joe, Crone Zone and Mrs. Padre have all been showing off their high-quality catches, tail swings and ball-play.

“Each year in animal welfare provides a new set of challenges,” said Helen Woodward Adoption Services Director Kendall Schultz. “This year has been tough because the economy is forcing a lot of families to abandon their pets.  We’re getting calls from rescue partners all over the country with record numbers of animals in need of help.  We hope our PAWdres puppies remind potential adopters that an orphan pup is ready to play ball with them all year long!”

The Padres’ latest victory, by a 5-3 score at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night, gave San Diego fans lots to celebrate.  Helen Woodward Animal Center is cheering for the Padres and our Paw Squad. The PAWdres pups wish the very best to the San Diego Padres and hope they come out swinging, while orphan pups come sliding into homes!   A new furry family member sitting on the couch to watch this weekend’s games will make a Padres win that much sweeter.
