8th Annual Puppy Love 5K Takes Over the EmBARKadero
Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Puppy Love 5K, Presented by Blue Buffalo, Brings Luck to Orphan Pets!

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.  (March 13, 2017) – This dog is learning new tricks! In its eighth year, the family and dog-friendly 5K event is changing up its venue, transforming San Diego’s stunning bay park into the EmBARKadero.  Sunday March 19th, Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 8th Annual Puppy Love 5K presented by Blue Buffalo will celebrate San Diego’s love for pets and the good fortune of pup-rechauns finding their forever homes. Golden-hearted supporters are forming teams to raise more life-saving “green” than ever before on behalf of orphan pets.  The Puppy Love 5K pre-events kick off at 7am at Embarcadero Marina Park South with runners hitting the course at 7:30am.

Harnessing St. Patty’s Day luck for Center adoptables, San Diego animal-loving individuals, families, and teams are racing to join the pack of registered paw-ticipants. The event promises to get hearts pumping with breathtaking views of the San Diego Bayfront along a fun course suitable for all skill levels.  Dogs are welcome to join their humans for FREE and all the funds raised will go towards the pets and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.

In addition to the two separate races (running at 7:30am and walking at 8:15am), the festivities will feature St. Patrick’s Day-themed fun at the “After Paw-ty” in the BARKetplace.   Families and teams will gather to celebrate their luck of having found furry friends of their own with music, a human and canine costume contest, dog agility, kid’s activities including face painting, food, and dozens of interactive heath and pet-related booths.

“We’re always trying to keep this event fresh, fun, and focused on the animals,” stated Special Events Manager Regina Barrella. “We’re excited to bring the 5K to this gorgeous bayside park where participants can really go at their own pace, enjoy the scenery, and of course meet lots of adorable pups for a great cause!”

Race entry for the 8th Annual Puppy Love 5K is $40 for adult runners and walkers and $18 for youth 12 and under.  Those with team spirit can gather a group of six or more and use the DISCOUNT CODE “TEAM10” to get $10 off for each adult!  For more information or to register, visit animalcenter.org or call 858-756-4117 x 350.  Day-of festivities begin at 7:00am and the first race kicks off at 7:30am.
