BLUE BUFFALO SENDS CHARITABLE STAMPEDE OF FOOD TO SOCAL SHELTERS

A CHARITABLE STAMPEDE HEADS TO HELEN WOODWARD ANIMAL CENTER THIS THURSDAY!

20+ Pet Rescue Groups Receive Windfall Donation of 33 THOUSAND POUNDS of Blue Buffalo Dog Food

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.  (January 17, 2018) – Of the many challenges pet rescues face, providing enough food for their furry charges may be the most consistent. Now, thanks to a massive donation from Blue Buffalo of over 33,000 pounds of dog food, animal welfare organizations from across Southern California will be able take some of this worry off of their plates – and fill their furry friends’ bowls.  Tomorrow, Thursday, January 18th, representatives from over 20 different animal rescue groups will each pick up 1,500 pounds of the high quality pet food from Helen Woodward Animal Center!

It is no secret that animal welfare organizations often struggle with limited funding and many hungry mouths to feed. The tremendous need leaves rescuers juggling food budgets along with supply costs and medical expenses. This week’s donation from Blue Buffalo is done in a philanthropic effort to take a big bite out of that burden to make more time for cuddles, ear scratches, and searches for forever families.

Blue Buffalo is donating the dog food based on a routine inventory review revealing a food surplus.  Helen Woodward Animal Center, which has partnered with Blue Buffalo since 2013, received a request from Blue to distribute the food to the Center’s partner organizations.  Helen Woodward Animal Center and Blue Buffalo have been working together to help other rescue organizations through far-reaching projects like the annual Home 4 the Holidays Campaign (adopting-out more than 1 million pets over this past holiday season alone!) and the annual Remember Me Thursday® pet adoption awareness campaign. In addition, Blue Buffalo has supported Center events and programs like the Surf Dog Surf-a-thon, the Puppy Love 5K, and the AniMeals program, which recently expanded its reach to provide high quality pet food to wounded military clients with service dogs in need.

“We are so grateful to Blue Buffalo,” stated Helen Woodward Animal Center VP of Development Renee Resko.  “They genuinely share our love of pets and share our commitment to trying to find ways to spread the message of adoption and help rescue organizations.  We work with partner rescue organizations year-round and we see how dedicated they are to the animals. It means a lot that we’re able to help facilitate this donation.”

Beginning tomorrow, January 18th, the rescue groups will arrive in shifts to pick up the food.  The pick-ups will continue through Friday.
