Visions of Sugar Poms…

Helen Woodward Animal Center Makes ‘Room at the Inn’ for a Wounded Mother Pomeranian and her Adorable Pups…

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.  (December 24th, 2018) – Christmas Eve can be one of the most magical days of the year, and this year’s 24-hour countdown to Christmas is extra sweet.  A mother Pomeranian, hit by a car, and her five baby-soft puppies (nicknamed the Sugar Poms) have come seeking room at Helen Woodward’s “Inn.”  Center staff is delighted to help the family in need and are sure to go to sleep with dreams of these Sugar Poms dancing in their heads.

Late last week, Helen Woodward Animal Center received a call for help when Sugar, a mother Pomeranian was hit by a car in San Diego.  Unable to bear weight on her front and back right legs, she was released to a shelter with her puppies and an uncertain future.

“Not all shelters can take in a litter of puppies,” said Center Animal Acquisition Manager LaBeth Thompson, “especially when the mother is in need of medical care.  It takes a lot more resources from our medical team and our foster network as the puppies grow, and the mother heals, and so many shelters struggle with space.  We are incredibly fortunate to have a strong group of foster volunteers who are actual lifesavers in situations like this.  It’s extra-special to be able to give this family a place during the Christmas season. It’s the kind of miracle we work year-round to make possible.”

Sugar and her puppies are doing well and will go available early in the New Year!  For information on the Sugar Poms or to donate to Helen Woodward Animal Center’s medical care, please contact Helen Woodward Animal Center at 858-756-4117, visit us online at www.animalcenter.org, or stop by 6523 Helen Woodward Way, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067.
