Directions for Climbing Spider Craft
1. Cut a circle out of the black construction paper. You can make it as big as you’d like. (Mine is about 3 inches in diameter.) Cut 8 strips of black paper, about ¼ of an inch wide and 4 ½ inches long.
2. Next, fold the strips of paper accordion-style. These will be the spider’s legs. After you’ve folded all 8, glue 4 on each side of the spider’s body. Add googly eyes to the spider.
3. Cut 2 1-inch pieces of straw and tape them to the back of the spider. Cut a piece of yarn 2 to 3 feet long and string it up through one straw and back down through the other. Tie a pony bead to each end of the yarn.
4. Next we will be creating the spider’s web! Paint 3 popsicle sticks orange. Use hot glue to glue the sticks together. Tie the yarn around the center of the popsicle sticks.
5. Starting at the center, wrap the yarn all the way around one stick, then over to the next stick and around that one. Continue wrapping around the popsicle sticks, while moving out and away from the center of the web. Once you get close to the edge of the popsicle sticks, cut the yarn and tie it to one stick. Find the center of the yarn connected to your spider, and glue it to the end of one of the popsicle sticks.
Put one hand on each bead and pull out and away from each other, and watch your spider climb to its web! Let go and watch it climb back down!
