Pets Without Walls

About – Pets Without Walls

Starting in 2017, the Pets Without Walls program’s mobile veterinary unit began to help those experiencing homelessness in San Diego County by keeping their four-legged companions fed and healthy.  The bond between people experiencing hardship and their pets is strong; in doing our part to support the health of these pets, we help keep them with their beloved owners through times of financial struggle and homelessness.

In 2022, we were able to expand these services to include low income seniors, made possible thanks to funding from the Alex and Elisabeth Lewyt Charity Trust.  Each week, the Lewyt Mobile Pet Health + Wellness Unit visits one of our partners like Father Joe’s Day Center, Alpha Project, Interfaith, Meals on Wheels and newly added PATH San Diego to provide free health checks, microchipping, spays and neuters, vaccines and flea and tick medications.  Through the Center’s AniMeals program, Pets Without Walls is also able to provide pet food too.

Mobile Veterinary Unit Visits

Our mobile veterinary unit visits 4 sites per month rotating between several partner locations across San Diego County. We offer free General health and wellness exams, vaccines, flea/tick prevention, microchipping and spay/neuter by appointment only.

At this time, our only walk up location is at Father Joe’s Day Center located at 299 17th St, San Diego, CA 92101.
Spay and Neuters at this location do require an appointment.

How our walkup clinic at Father Joe’s works:
Our first appointment is at 9:00am and our last appointment is at 1:45pm. Due to limited time and resources, availability to be seen is based on a first come first serve basis. When you arrive, please line up single file at the gate. If you are unable to find the location, ask a security member for directions. At 9:00am a Veterinary staff member will walk down the line and write your name, phone number and place in line. We cannot guarantee you will be seen. Please have your pet leashed or in a carrier and any medical history paperwork.

We try and service this location monthly but do not have a set schedule. Thank you for your cooperation!

Please call (858)-756-4117 x 339 or email outreach@animalcenter.org to find our next upcoming clinic date or to be added to the spay/neuter waitlist.
