PAWMICON UNITED FUZZY SUPERHEROES OF ALL SHAPES AND SIZES!
Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 5th Annual Event Doubled in Size at Hazard Center in Mission Valley!
(Superdogs, superowners, and adoption supporters of all kinds, enjoyed Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 5th Annual PAWmicon hosted by Hazard Center.)
Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. (July 17, 2017) – Over the weekend, Hazard Center visitors must have felt very safe indeed, surrounded by superheroes of all shapes and sizes, including the cuddliest kinds! That’s because Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 5th Annual PAWmicon Convention flew into the shopping plaza on Saturday morning to prove that the real heroes are powerful pooches and the people who love them. Due to fan requests, the pup-ular free event was held the weekend prior to Comic-Con to allow attendees to take in both types of animated characters. The frivolity doubled in size bringing in over 300 attendees, with adorable pooches impressing with some of the most creative costumes to date!
The family-friendly event tested the super-powers of human and canine guests alike with comic-themed games and activities, including “bobbing for squeak toys” for dogs; superhero-themed crafts for kids; opportunity drawings for Comic-themed prizes, dog-friendly goodies and incredible gifts from Blue Buffalo and the shops at Hazard Center.
But the most highly anticipated contest of the day was the all-important PAWSplay Contest for superheroes and their heroic dogs. 33 Super Canine contestants battled it out on the cat-walk, including Terrier-mix “Nips” as Septa Unella from Game of Bones, Schnoodle rescue “Sir Ruffles Von Vicious” as Captain Super Pooper Scooper, and Corgi “Emma” as Appa – Avabark the last Airbender. But the top prizes went to “Honey Bear and Lola” as Batman and Robin in 3rd Place, “Zoey” and her owner Guy as Slimer and the Marshmallow Man in 2nd Place, and rescue Yorkie “Bailey” as Hairy Paw-ter arriving on his Dogwarts Express float!
Of course, at the heart of all the fun, PAWmicon has one sole purpose – to draw the attention of potential adopters to perform a superhero action of their own and provide a lucky pet with a forever home. Center orphan pups were there in attendance to show off their super-loving powers in comic-book attire and seek the crowd for a heroic family and a forever home. All money raised from contests and opportunity drawings went directly to the pets and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.
