At Helen Woodward Animal Center, we never give up on an orphan pet — even when people say they’re unadoptable. We believe every animal both deserves, and is capable of finding a home. They just need to find the right one.
Flora was a cat who some deemed “unadoptable.” The eight-month-old calico kitty would hide away in her corner cat condo within the Center’s cattery and hide behind her litterbox whenever strangers would come by. When our animal care technicians would open the door to her kennel, she would do everything in her power to get as far away from them as possible. It was almost impossible to get her into the meeting rooms, as she hated being picked up. Some folks joked that we should get used to Flora, as she’d be staying with the Center for a long time.
But then, in early June, an older couple came to the Center looking to add a friendly feline to their family. They perused the cattery and were immediately drawn to Flora’s gorgeous calico coat. Nobody got their hopes up, as she had spent over a month rejecting potential adopters. But Flora surprised everyone when our Animal Care Team opened the door to her cat condo. She immediately ran up to the couple and pressed her face into their hands. They took her into one of the meeting rooms where she jumped into each of their laps and started making the best biscuits on them. When our team told the couple she had never done this before, they knew it meant Flora chose them.
An hour later, the couple took the calico home, where she’s been living happily ever since.
