THE PAWSOME LEAGUE FEATURED AT PAWMICON!

Helen Woodward Animal Center Long-Term Orphan Pets Receive Blockbuster Billing…

Rancho Santa Fe, CA (July 6, 2021) – Summer blockbuster season is here but there are far more exciting adventure stories awaiting you at Helen Woodward Animal Center.  Five of the Center’s longer-term resident orphan pets have joined forces to rescue potential adopters from a life of the hum-drum.  The PAWsome League, made up of two dynamic cats and three phenomenal pups, are starring in their own boredom-blasting feature film promo in hopes of capturing the attention of perfect FURever families.  These deserving and cuddly characters include Magical Matilda, Beyoncé the Invisible Cat, Tracy-Marie Batdog, Clifford the Cannonball, and Captain Sir Charles.  This weekend, awe-inspiring individuals who adopt any member of our PAWsome League will not only take home a super pet, but will also receive a limited edition PAWsome League Poster, along with PAWmicon themed prizes.

For the eighth year in a row, Helen Woodward Animal Center will celebrate the spectacular feats of superhero adopters by paying homage to Comic-Con International with a Pop Culture-themed Dog Cosplay event entitled PAWmicon.  At its core, the unique event has always had one life-saving mission:  To inspire individuals to perform a superhero action of their own and adopt an orphan pet.

The PAWsome League are five of Helen Woodward Animal Centers longer-term residents seeking seriously stunning individuals to give them a chance at the wow-worthy happy ending they deserve.

“As much as we love spending time with these guys, we hate to see any of our orphan pets take too long to find their forever homes,” explained Helen Woodward Animal Care Assistant Manager Tracy Woodworth.  “Our PAWsome League members are all amazing but they have specific needs that will really help them show off their superpower traits.  Tracy-Marie Batdog would love to be with an adopter who is retired or who works from home.  Magical Matilda is looking for lots of room to run and play.  All it will take is one superhero rescuer to truly change their lives.”

The PAWsome League invites potential adopters to Helen Woodward Animal Center this weekend.  In addition to the possibility of rescuing your new best friend, Helen Woodward Animal Center is throwing a PAWmicon-themed Weekend including pop-culture-named orphan pets, a Comic-themed Kid’s Craft for younger attendees, photo opportunities, a SUPER sale at Orphaned Objects on Saturday and Sunday in honor of PAWmicon, and a Club Pet PAWmicon Cosplay PAWty on Friday for their Doggie Daycare Clients.

On Saturday, July 24th between 9:30am and 10:30am, visitors should plan on attending the highly anticipated PAWSplay Costume Competition in the Center’s Humane Education Pavilion.  Those who wish to participate in the contest can sign up here: https://my.animalcenter.org/event/pawmicon-2021/e346864.  The entry fee is $10 per pup and all proceeds support the pets and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.  Cosplayers will serve as judges and be available for photo opportunities after the contest and Rush Coffee Cart will be on-site.

Additionally, for the first time ever, Comic-Con International is including the rescue facility in its July on-line virtual experience, entitled Comic-Con @ Home, with a Helen Woodward Animal Center-hosted panel entitled Animals in Graphic Novels and Games.  The virtual panel discussion, set to premiere on July 25th at 11:00am, features Chris Ryall and Keith Arem and is hosted by Robert Rice from Omniscape.

Limited-edition PAWmicon t-shirts are also available online: https://www.bonfire.com/store/helen-woodward-animal-center/.  Proceeds support Helen Woodward Animal Center pets and programs. For more information about PAWmicon, visit www.animalcenter.org or https://my.animalcenter.org/event/pawmicon-2021/e346864.  For more information about the Comic-Con Museum, visit www.Comic-Con.org/Museum.
