HELEN WOODWARD ORPHAN PUPS HOPING FOR DRAFT IN COMPETITIVE FIELD!

The NFL draft is one of the most exhilarating times of the year, but a record number of orphan pups have been left on the bench, antsy for some game time.  Helen Woodward Animal Center has a roster full of puppies, due to multiple cries-for-help from partner organizations across the country.  In an effort to save the lives of as many furry rookies as possible, the Center is hoping to draft these ball players into foster families for a temporary stay.  Helen Woodward Animal Center is throwing a Hail-Mary, in hopes that loving San Diego families will come in with a life-saving touchdown.

In what has become a tragic 2024 trend, adoptions are at an all-time low from coast-to-coast.  Puppies that would have been first round draft picks are spending weeks in free agency looking for their forever teams.  Currently, Helen Woodward Animal Center has more than 70 puppies available this weekend, with more waiting with Center foster families, and even more arriving in desperate need of a temporary foster home.

Helen Woodward Animal Center is putting out an urgent plea for the life-saving teamwork that comes with being a rescue foster.  Being a foster is considered the #1 way to save lives and the primary way that orphan pets are able to leave high-kill locations.  The Center is currently seeking urgent placement for 30 puppies to be pulled from an area at high-risk of euthanasia.

“We work with dozens of rescue partners across the country,” said Adoption Services Director Kendall Schulz, “It is our greatest joy to connect with overburdened shelters and save the lives of animals that would be euthanized if they didn’t have a place to go.  Unfortunately, we have simply run out of room and are having to turn rescue partners away.”
