Helen Woodward Animal Center Invites Children to Enjoy a Howlin’ Good Time
Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. (Oct. 24, 2019) – Curious creatures are counting down the days for Helen Woodward Animal Center’s most spook-tacular event of the season. This weekend, critter-loving kids will be treated with the chance to encounter cute and crawling “creepy” characters in one unique family fall festival. Howl-O-Ween Harvest Family Festival runs Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Education Pavilion.
Families are invited to dress in costume for one of the most unique Halloween-themed events of the year. Helen Woodward Animal Center’s highly anticipated Howl-O-Ween Harvest offers attendees a chance to tour a new Creepy Clinic, explore a mystical maze, take part in ghostly-fun games, pick out a mini pumpkin from our patch, delight in a candy apple making station, make crafts, get their faces painted and much more.
Perhaps the best part of the Howl-O-Ween Harvest Family Festival is the hands-on animal encounters happening throughout the day. To get young attendees in the Halloween spirit, kids will not only meet cuddly Humane Education Ambassadors like our miniature horses and donkey, guinea pigs, alpacas, goats, rabbits and duck but they will also learn about and interact with our animal friends considered on the spooky and slithery side, like snakes, millipedes, lizards and Madagascar hissing cockroaches. Then families won’t want to miss the chance to get some love at the Adoptable Canine Kissing Booth.
For those interested, kids are invited to compete in the costume and pumpkin decorating contests. Contest winners will receive FREE admission to our upcoming holiday festival, Frosty Farm.
“The Howl-O-Ween Harvest Family Festival is not only an amazing way to get into the Fall sprit and enjoy Halloween-centered activities,” explained Humane Education Manager Haylee Blake. “What I really like about this event is that we get to show kids how some of the ‘creepier’ critters aren’t really so scary after all and actually play a valuable part in our ecosystem. It’s also a great opportunity to have a hands-on interaction with some unique creatures.”
The Howl-O-Ween Harvest Family Festival is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27. The cost is $14.25 per child (which includes animal interactions, all activities, refreshments and a mini pumpkin to take home.). Accompanying adults cost $5. Families are encouraged to bring a donation of pet food to support to the Center’s AniMeals program which provides food to the pets of homebound, elderly and former military individuals.
