Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Howl-O-Ween Harvest Festival Offers Kids a Frighteningly Good Time

Ghouls, Ghosts, and… Goats?

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.  (Oct. 19, 2023) – Spooky season is upon us once again, and Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Humane Education Department is offering kids an educational Halloween treat and a spine-tingling good time!  For the 9th year in a row, the Center is inviting parents and kids of all ages to partake in a frighteningly fun day of hands-on animal encounters, trick-or-treat stations, crafts, and a journey through our Creepy Vet Clinic. Kick-off Halloween at Helen Woodward Animal Center’s “Howl-O-Ween Harvest Family Day,” Saturday, October 21st, Saturday, October 28th, or Sunday October 29th between 9am and 1pm at the Center’s Education Building – 6461 El Apajo Road in Rancho Santa Fe.

Every October, teachers and troop leaders look forward to taking their groups of kids for Helen Woodward Animal Center’s annual Howl-O-Ween Harvest Tour that combines laughter, thrills and animal encounters for a perfect Halloween-themed experience.  Now individual families can get in on the fun, kick-off the “spooky” holiday, and create treasured memories. Family Day attendees will create boo-tiful crafts, survive the “Creepy Vet Clinic,” journey through the mini pumpkin patch, and enjoy trick-or-treat stations, face painting, and a marvelous maze. Of course, Howl-O-Ween Harvest Family Festival wouldn’t be complete without a terrifying tour of creepy critters! Encounter feathered, furry, and scaly creatures throughout the event space and be on the lookout for unique arrivals every few minutes who are “dying” to get up close and personal with you on their claws or hooves.

“This is one of my favorite events of the year for two reasons,” Associate Director of Education Haylee Blake said.  “One, everyone has a great time and two, it’s a perfect way to address some common misconceptions about some of the creepier critters and teach kids about the wonderful things they provide for our environment.  Even though the theme is spooky and creepy, we actually get to help kids get over their fears of these misunderstood creatures!”

The Family Howl-O-Ween Harvest Tours kickoff at 9am on October 21st, October 28th, and October 29th and run until 1pm.  The cost is $13.75 per child (which includes animal interactions, all activities, and a mini pumpkin to take home.).  Accompanying adults cost $7.   Visitors can plan their arrival time around meeting and greeting their choice of favorite critters.
