General Browsing Information
If you visit our site to read or download information, we may collect and store the following general information in order to analyze trends, gather broad demographic information, and monitor site traffic patterns that can help us further develop and improve the design and functionality of our site: your computer’s IP address, browser type, and operating system, the date and time you access our site, the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site; and the various pages that you visit while on our site.
Information Collection & Use
Helen Woodward Animal Center (“HWAC”) is the sole owner of the information collected on www.animalcenter.org. HWAC collects personally identifiable information from our users at several different points on our Web site. We explicitly notify you on the site before we collect any personally-identifiable information about you (e.g. your name, email address, contact information, credit card number, etc.), and will not collect any information unless you choose to provide it to us. This information may be shared within our organization for the purposes of responding to any comments or questions you submit and/or providing follow up information about our organization.
If you purchase a product or service from us or donate, we request certain personally identifiable information from you on our order form. You must provide contact information (such as name, email, and shipping address) and financial information (such as credit card number, expiration date).
We use this information for billing purposes and to fill your orders. If we have trouble processing an order, we will use this information to contact you.
If you choose to use our referral service to tell a friend about our site, we will ask you for your friend’s name and email address. We will automatically send your friend a one-time email inviting him or her to visit the site. HWAC does not store or track this information.
Communications from the Site
Special Offers and Updates
We will occasionally send you information via mass email on special events upcoming at the Center, include ticket or sign up information. We also may send you special retail offers, updates on heartwarming stories occurring at the Center, pleas for help with items of need at the Center or around the County, or requests for donations.

If you wish to subscribe to our newsletter(s), we will use your name and email address to send the newsletter to you. Out of respect for your privacy, we provide you a way to unsubscribe. Please see the “Choice/Opt-out” section.
Supplementation of Information
In order to provide payment receipts to you, we may on occasion supplement the personal information you submitted to us with information from third party sources. Specifically we verify your ID/address when we use authorize.net to verify your payment information, in order to process the donation or payment for services rendered.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
Aggregate Information (non-personally identifiable)
We share aggregated demographic information about our user base with our partners and advertisers. This information does not identify individual users.
We do not link aggregate user data with personally identifiable information.
Personally identifiable information:
We will never sell your information under any circumstances. Some information, such as your name and mailing address, may be exchanged with other nonprofit organizations that may want to contact you with offers consistent with your stated preferences and/or our mission or for other solicitation purposes. You may opt out of such list exchanges by following the “Choice/Opt-Out” procedures listed below.
We use an outside shipping company to fulfill orders, and a credit card processing company to bill you for goods and services. These companies do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any other purposes.
We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our Web site.
We provide you the opportunity to ‘opt-out’ of having your personally identifiable information used for certain purposes, when we ask for this information. For example, if you purchase a product/service but do not wish to receive any additional marketing material from us, you can indicate your preference on our order form.
