When Taboo and Tula were 11 and 12, respectively, their entire world was flipped upside down. Their loving dog mom who had raised them and loved them their entire lives, passed away. Not wanting her elderly border collie blends to fend for themselves, she enrolled them in Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Pet Bequest program. This ensured that the lovely ladies’ futures were secured.
Taboo and Tula came to the Center in mid-March of this year. While they were initially shy and reserved — after all this had been the first time they lived somewhere other than their old home in over ten years — they slowly opened up their personalities to the animal care team. Taboo revealed herself to be a big old affectionate goofball. She would frequently march right up to any human in sight and stare them down until she got head pats. Despite this passion for pets, Taboo is the mellower of the sisters. Tula, on the other hand, acts more like a collie blend. She loves chasing the ball around the yard, she’s the first to demand her humans throw the ball around the yard, and she’d frequently flop on her back and wiggle around until she got belly scratchies.
Despite the pair’s lovable personalities, they sat around in their kennels for far too long. Many people are apprehensive about older dogs. Many people looking for a canine companion want one, or maybe two puppies. Two older dogs, even if they’re loving and playful, just doesn’t cut it for some folks.
But then, in the beginning of May, a father-daughter combo came into the Center’s adoptions building on a mission. They had seen the border collie blends on our website and they fell in love immediately. Their meeting with the pair didn’t last long. They already knew Taboo and Tula were the dogs for them, the meeting just proved they were the people for Taboo and Tula. The four left the Center together shortly after.
A week later, Taboo and Tula’s new PAWrents confirmed the girls are living their best lives. They acclimated to their new environment quickly. Now, two months later, Taboo and Tula are thriving in their new home, with their new family.
