UPDATE: Watch a replay of the Whisker World Cup broadcast here…

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.  (June 10, 2019) – Soccer fans all over the country will be anxiously waiting Tuesday morning as the U.S. Women’s National Team takes the field in France for their first match of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Orphan cats and kittens available for adoption at Helen Woodward Animal Center want to help fans ease their nerves and amp the excitement by broadcasting their very own Whisker World Cup, Tuesday, June 11, from 9:30 to 10 a.m. (PST) exclusively on the Center’s Facebook feed.

During this busy kitten season, a period when kittens and momma cats arrive at area shelters in droves, orphan kittens are building quite the fan club at Helen Woodward Animal Center. With more and more kittens arriving daily, this growing group of adoptables is pepped for the Women’s World Cup and will be dutifully rooting for the U.S. Women’s National Team by  prepping for an important match of their own, the Whisker World Cup. Teams of adorably furry but fierce competitors will use their top-notch athleticism and agility to score the most goals.

But, it’s not only goals these feline futballers are hoping to score. They’re hoping to catch the eye of potential adopters and with the weeks winding down until they’re able to move in to the Center’s brand new adoptions building, they’re hoping to score some much needed supplies to stock up the new kitten nursery. Futbol and feline fans turning in on Facebook Live tomorrow can do their part to help by choosing to open their home and adopting or by heading to the Center’s Amazon Wish list at www.animalcenter.org/kittenshower and donating much needed kitten supplies.

“The orphan kittens regularly arriving at the Center this kitten season are filled with hope, a zest for life and fun,” explained Dora Dahlke, Adoptions Services Manager. “We’re excited to show off their cuteness and help them find their forever home all while bringing attention to the need of kitten supplies during this busy season.”

The Center’s orphan kittens have also gained the attention of animal rescue advocate and two-time Women’s World Cup Champion, Michelle Akers. She is sending lots good vibes to our Whisker World Cup hopefuls and using her platform on social media to share how anyone can help during kitten season by adopting, fostering or donating.

Don’t miss the Whisker World Cup on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. (PST) on www.Faceboook.com/HelenWoodwardAnimalCenter and watch a promo video and message from Michelle Akers here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uTO82sa728
