HOLIDAY CLEAR OUT!

Helen Woodward Animal Center Celebrates a Miraculous Emptying of Kennels…

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.  (December 27, 2018) – As of one hour ago, Helen Woodward Animal Center can officially announce that ALL Center orphan pups, and nearly all Center cats, have found their holiday homes.  With a record number of 2018 adoptions the week before Christmas (64 canines and 35 felines between December 17th and 23rd), Center staffers are celebrating empty kennels and happy pets.

In 1999, Center President & CEO Mike Arms began the Home 4 the Holidays ca

mpaign in an effort to encourage winter-season pet seekers to choose adoption over backyard breeders or pet stores. This year, the campaign has paid off at home and, for the first time ever, it has literally cleared the kennels.

“At 2:17pm today, Parmesan – a Lab-blend puppy, was adopted and officially signaled the clear-out of all canines on the premises,” stated Center Operations Director Jennifer Shorey.  “Maybe even more exciting, Newt, a special needs feline, was adopted this morning.  She was a harder-to-place pet and we are so grateful she found her forever home for the New Year.

Empty kennels mean an opportunity to save more lives and Shorey and her team have put out last minute calls to overburdened surrounding shelters to assist in placing even more pets.  The new group of orphan dogs and cats are being transported and will arrive over the next two days.  Medical exams and spays and neuters have been scheduled for all incoming animals and a good number of available pets are expected to go up for adoption this Sunday, December 30th, when Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Adoption Department opens at 11:00am.

“This is like a little Christmas miracle,” explained Shorey.  “We are delighted to help extend this bit of magic into the New Year.”
