Recycled Flower Bouquet

Here in San Diego, we’ve had a very wet winter, and now we’re seeing lots of beautiful spring flowers everywhere! While real flowers are beautiful, they don’t last as long as this forever bouquet that you can make to brighten your wall or to give as a gift. Don’t forget, Mother’s Day is just around the corner. (Hint hint!)

Recycled Bouquet Materials

  • Large, flat piece of cardboard
  • Colored construction paper (large enough to completely cover cardboard)
  • Paint (acrylic or tempera) in a variety of colors
  • Paint brush
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Ribbon
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Egg carton
  • Buttons to coordinate with your paint colors

Recycled Bouquet Directions

  1. Start by cutting up your egg carton so that each cup is separated. Paint the cups in a variety of colors; these will become your flowers.
  2. While your paint dries cover your flat piece of cardboard with construction paper. Use the hot glue gun to attach on the back.
  3. Once your painted egg carton flowers are dry, arrange them on the cardboard covered in construction paper. When you’re happy with the way your bouquet looks, use your hot glue gun to attach the flowers in place.
  4. Next, use your hot glue gun to glue a coordinating button into the center of each of your flowers.
  5. Gather together your green pipe cleaners; these are your stems. Make sure you have as many pipe cleaner stems as you do egg carton flowers. Arrange your stems below your flowers and cut them so they are even. Tie them together with your ribbon.
  6. Use your hot glue gun to attach the stems below the flowers.
  7. Now your recycled bouquet is ready to mount on a wall or give as a gift. You can be proud that you remembered to help the planet by reusing and recycling supplies to make your craft! Make more crafts like this by attending one of our Humane Education programs in San Diego!

Due to Hurricane Hilary, all  departments will be closing at 3pm today.  Stay safe!
