(Spirited Pup-rechauns find runners trophies, costume contest prizes and a forever homes at the end of their rainbows!)

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.  (Feb. 23, 2016) – Sunday March 13th, Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 7th Annual Puppy Love 5K will dust-up the trails around gorgeous Lake Poway for an encore year at the stunning lakeside location. The family-friendly, dog-focused 5K presented by Blue Buffalo will celebrate the good fortune of pup-rechauns finding their forever homes with the help of the yearly fundraiser. Golden-hearted supporters are already forming teams to raise more life-saving “green” than ever before on behalf of orphan pets.  The Puppy Love 5K pre-events kick off at 7:00amat Lake Poway with runners hitting the trail at 8:30am.

Harnessing early St. Patty’s Day luck for Center adoptables, San Diego animal-lovers are already racing to join the fun with a record number of individuals, families, and teams registered. The event promises to get hearts pumping with a fun and challenging course that will have participants charging hills, descending into canyons, and eager to see what the next switchback has to offer.   For those who prefer an easier pace, an untimed walk offers a chance to take in the stunning views on the same 5K lake trail loop.   Dogs are welcome to join their humans for FREE and all the funds raised will go towards the pets and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.

In addition to the two separate races (running at 8:30am and walking at 8:50am), the festivities will feature St. Patrick’s Day-themed fun at the “After Paw-ty” in the Wagging Wellness Village.   Families and teams will gather to celebrate their luck of having found furry friends of their own with music, a human-canine costume contest, dog agility, kid’s activities including face painting, food, and dozens of interactive heath and pet related booths.

“We are so touched by the incredible number of people who have already shown their support for the upcoming 5K,” stated Vice President of Development Renee Resko. “We’re lucky to be surrounded by a community that truly loves animals, and is willing to go the distance to save lives. From our generous hosts at the City of Poway, to all of the volunteers that make this event possible, it’s just beautiful to see people come together to help our four-legged friends.”
