PAWmicon

PAWmicon is the “The Cutest Kickoff to Comic-Con” that blends Comic-Con culture with animal rescue, all to support the pets and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.

Since 2012 the event has been held annually during San Diego’s Comic-Con week and at its core, is a way to celebrate the power of Rescue.

PAWmicon was started with the idea that while comic book fans wait all year to meet their heroes, orphan pets wait a lifetime to meet theirs, the people who choose to adopt them.

PAWmicon has evolved into one of San Diego’s most recognizable pet-themed Comic-Con events, drawing hundreds of attendees and their pets to celebrate pop culture while raising awareness and funds for Helen Woodward Animal Center’s lifesaving programs.

PAWmicon 2026!

Cuteness took over Balboa Park this past Tuesday, July 21st, as hundreds of pop-culture lovers and their furry friends came out to support Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 14th annual PAWmicon. The event, described as “The Cutest Kickoff to Comic-Con,” took place on the Presidents Way lawn in Balboa Park. Even before the proverbial doors officially opened, fans of all things fun and fluffy were perusing the various booths set up across the lawn.

New this year were the Lego Booth, where creative folks could build their masterpiece and the Charms Booth, where people could craft and take home cute Comic-Con themed jewelry. Even Mr. Pibb made an appearance, offering their tasty beverage to passersby. This year also saw the debut of the most PAWpular pet, where attendees could vote for their favorite comPETitor.

The marquee attraction, the Mission Fed PAWsplay Competition, proved to be a roaring hit. Attendees came with all sorts of creative costumes: from characters from Castaway, to Spongebob Squarepants. PAWticipants could compete in one of three categories: Flying Solo; Duos, Trios, & More; and Floats!
