Philip first came to us in dire straights. He had been found on a farm in Central California with bite and claw wounds all along his neck and torso, and he had a serious ulcer developing in his eye. Our rescue partner in the area figured he had a better chance at recovery and a happy life with Helen Woodward Animal Center, and thus asked us to take him in.
A few days later, Philip was getting a thorough medical exam from the Center’s world class veterinary team. We determined that Philip had been attacked by a coyote and narrowly escaped with his life. While we couldn’t change the past, we could set him up for a bright future. Our team cleaned and sutured his wounds, gave him eye drops — it turned out he would be able to keep the eye — and placed him in a comfortable foster home where he could recover in a low stress environment. After several weeks of recovery, Philip returned to the Center to find his forever family.
Philip’s search didn’t take long. The spunky terrier blend had caught the eye of a woman whose previous dog had passed on a year prior. She knew when she saw Philip that he was the dog for her. The woman took the survivor home that day.
Philip, now Charlie, is living his best life. His dog mom ADORES him and he has become a total mama’s boy. Charlie has made tons of dog friends, including the woman’s daughter’s pups. And the terrier blend enjoys long walks on an extensive trail system by his new home.
