PAWmicon 2024 Is A Summer Blockbuster: Superheroic Soiree Raises Thousands for Rescue

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. (July 23, 2024) – This past Saturday, July 20th, animal lovers and PUP-culture enthusiasts were treated to a multiverse of adorableness, as Helen Woodward Animal Center celebrated its 12th Annual PAWmicon.

 

The suPAWhero themed event, hosted at AleSmith Brewing Company, featured hundreds of competitive canine attendees in costume, pet caricatures, pop culture portraits, and delicious food and beer. Beloved characters like BARKman, Arf2-D2, and DOGtor Octopus made appearances in their most formidable forms to help raise money and awareness for orphan pets in need. Altogether, the event heroically raised over $42,000 for orphan pets and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.

 

The superhero soiree is anchored around the marquee PAWSplay contest. Three categories saw comPETitors big and small throw their capes in the ring. Superheroes & Supervillains featured furry recreations of fans’ favorite Marvel and DC characters. Pop-culture pups opened the doggy door to costumes of any and all beloved characters in media. Finally, Dynamic Duos, Trios & More saw squads of coordinated costumed canines take to the stage and melt the hearts of the masses. 1st and 2nd place in each category took home a celebratory gift basket.

 

AND THE WINNERS ARE…

Superheroes & Supervillains Category:

1st place – Kylo, a Chihuahua-Corgi blend dressed as DOGtor Octopus
2nd place – Mini Goldendoodle Champ dressed as BARKman

 

Pop-Culture Pups Category:

1st place – Keeva the Siberian Husky Mix wins it all with her incredibly creative “Miss Comic-Con”
2nd place
– MaryJane the Poodle mix dressed as Barkie

 

 

Dynamic Duo’s, Trio’s, & More Category:

1st placeLinus and Lucy – a Maltese mix and Terrier-poodle mix, respectively, dressed as PAWfessor X and MUTTneto
2nd place – Mr. Bingley and Lizzy Bette, a pair of terriers blends dressed as the PAWerpuff Girls
