Welcome to Helen Woodward Animal Center's "Animal Lovers Club"   The club designed specifically for young animal lovers!  This is a special opportunity for your child to grow and share his/her animal knowledge while experiencing hands-on learning with animals. Your child will step into the world of animal care, help with behind-the-scenes projects, and learn how Helen Woodward Animal Center interacts with the community.

Classes are held on select Sundays with different themes every month. We hope to see your child there!

January: "Winter Around the World"

Winter can be a harsh time of year in many parts of the world. Learn how animals in different habitats adapt to the changing weather conditions. Experience first-hand how our native critters alter their routines to survive even the mildest winters here in San Diego and see how you can help them.

  • ALC (6-10 year olds) – January 13 th & 27 th
  • ALC: Leadership (11-14 year olds) – January 20th

February: "Puppy Love"

Celebrate your love for all animals during this special time of year. See how the Center expresses love towards its furry, feathered, and scaly friends and how animals express love in return. This month will focus on compassion and caring for animals and people in our community.

  • ALC (6-10 year olds) – February 10 th
  • ALC: Leadership (11-14 year olds) – February 3 rd & 24 th

March: "Nature Smarts"

Humans are not the only intelligent animals here at the Center! Some animals are born with instinctual behaviors that help them survive, while other behaviors must be taught. There are animals that learn from their environment, their parents, or even their special trainers. Come meet and help train some of our animal intellectuals!

  • ALC (6-10 year olds) – March 2nd & 16th

April: "Spring Forward"

It’s that time of year again! The weather is warmer, the flowers are blooming, and the animals are out to play. Come see how the changing weather affects critters of all kinds and help prepare them for the hot summer ahead.

  • ALC (6-10 year olds) – April 20th
  • ALC: Leadership (11-14 year olds) – April 13th.

May: "Animals at Play"

School’s almost out, the weather’s great and the animals are ready to have some fun! Come find out what games our animal friends like to play, and play along with them. You might play fetch with a dog, play hide-and-seek with a llama, or make cat toys for the kittens in Adoptions.

  • ALC (6-10 year olds) – May 18th
  • ALC: Leadership (11-14 year olds) – May 25th
