Introducing your child to animals

First Friends is an exiting parent-participation class for children ages 2 to 5 years. First Friends uses fun activities to introduce children to animals in a safe environment. Children learn how to be compassionate and respectful towards animals.  A parent is required to accompany children.

Classes are held Wednesday through Friday: 10 - 11:30am.  New this Fall!  Check schedule for select Saturday Classes!!

Exciting New Themes!

1. All the pets you can get:

Come meet some of Helen Woodward Animal Center’s famous critters! We teach about animals that people can have as pets, and what pets need in order to be healthy and safe. 

2. In my backyard

Learn about the animals we can see here in San Diego and our own backyard. Learn the 3 L’s (look, learn, leave alone) and how to be safe around local wildlife.

      3.  Out of Africa

Go on an animal safari to learn about the wonderful animals that live there! Discover Africa on the map and its many different habitats. 

4. Up in the Mountains

What animals live in the mountains and how do they do it?  Investigate the adaptations mountain animals have that allow them live at the top of the world!

5. Fur, Feathers, Scales

 This class is all about mammals, reptiles, and birds!  Meet a variety of     furry, scaly, and feathered friends. 

6. In the Outback:

G’Day mate!  Join us on an exploration of the marvelous island that is home to some very interesting critters!

7. Jammin’ in the Jungle

Let’s go on a trip through the trees, starting at the top and moving to the rainforest floor.  Along the way we’ll meet important rainforest animals and discover what their jungle jobs are.

     Cost: $17 per child per class
