Pet Boarding and Care in San Diego

As they say, dogs are man’s best friend… and wouldn’t you want man’s best friend to have the best care while you are out of town? It is crucial for pet parents to find trustworthy pet boarding and care services to ensure they have their pets situated before going on vacation or traveling out of town for any reason. Although you may consider reaching out to friends and family for support, there is nothing like having trustworthy and experience pet handlers to provide boarding and day care services to your pet, especially if they have special care instructions.

Here at the Center, we have an incredible pet boarding and day care facility called Club Pet Boarding, featuring Club Pet’s Spa in the Ranch. Club Pet Boarding is located on the Center’s campus at 6525 Helen Woodward Way and offers services such as: Dog Boarding, Cat Boarding, Exotics and Small Pet Boarding, Pet Day Care, Training, Grooming and more.

If you prefer to have someone at home with your pet(s), you may want to consider signing up with our partners at Trusted Housesitters to arrange for someone to both housesit and pet sit for you while you are out of town.

Here are some things to think about while planning to board your pet or considering additional pet services with your pet’s stay:

Benefits of Pet Boarding

While you are away on vacation, it is important to have some options for your pet to stay so that you can take that trip you have always dreamed of. When you find that perfect spot to take your pet, rest assured that your mind will be at ease and you can enjoy your time off knowing your pet is in good hands.

Although it may be tempting to plan trips around where you can take your dog, it may be comforting to have them set up at a place where you know they will be socializing with other pets and you won’t have to leave them in your accommodations for any excursions that are not pet friendly.

Also, when you start to frequent the same boarding facility, your pet will feel more at ease when you leave because they know it is just a temporary stay.

Choosing a Pet Boarding Facility

It’s important that you find a Pet Boarding facility that meets your needs and your pet’s comfort level before you make a booking. To choose the right facility in San Diego, you may want to pay a personal visit to assess the cleanliness, staff expertise, environmental factors, and kennel availability. At this time, you can also gain more insight into the additional services you may want to book for your pet such as playtime, grooming and medical care.

At Club Pet Boarding, you can get an all-around experience for your pet as there is a grooming spa on the premises as well as the Companion Animal Hospital within walking distance for routine or emergency pet medical services.

Types of Pet Boarding Options

Depending on what you and your pet are comfortable with, there are a few options you may consider for overnight care: Traditional Boarding Kennels or Home Boarding.

Traditional Boarding Kennels

San Diego offers a variety of Pet Boarding options across the county and at Club Pet Boarding, we specialize in Traditional Boarding for Dogs, Cats, and Small Exotic Pets. Additional services provided at Club Pet Boarding include Grooming, Daycare, Play groups, Training and more.

Home Boarding

Home Boarding options, which you may find through our partners at Trusted Housesitters, involves having someone stay at your home to take care of your pets. You may consider this option if your pet is especially sensitive in new environments, has a routine tied to the home or if it is more comfortable for all parties. This makes it easier on the owner so that they do not have to prepare so much to bring to a boarding facility.

Pet Boarding Preparations

When packing for your pet’s stay, be sure to include:

  1. Food and Treats: Make sure there is enough for the entirety of their stay and that you explain the portions to the staff upon arrival at the facility.
  2. Medications: Be sure to label the medications and provide instructions to the staff. Also, be sure to have their medical and vaccination records in the system for staff to access if needed.
  3. Bedding or Blanket: These items will make the pet feel more at home and cozy.
  4. Toys: To keep your pet entertained, be sure to pack some of their favorite or more time-consuming toys.
  5. Leash, Collar and any Harnesses: It is important to have your pet ID tags on its collar and provide whatever leash and/or harness that they are used to.
  6. Grooming Supplies: If your pet is used to getting pampered or has a coat in need of special care, be sure to pack any supplies the staff may need.

Be sure to clearly label your pet’s belongings so that the staff can make sure it is accounted for and gathered at the time of pick-up!

Sometimes, boarding facilities will have a limit on the number of items you bring or have recommendations on what else you may want to prepare. Be sure to check ahead of time so that you are ready on the day of your drop-off!
