Operation: Tiny Tails
Springtime signals reveille. Sunshine rises on the horizon, warmer days advance, and bright new beginnings report for duty. Among the most heart-melting recruits are the thousands of puppies and kittens taking their very first breaths as the season of new life marches in.
These tiny troops and their devoted mamas need a full battalion of time, love, and lifesaving care to grow strong. Every cuddle is backup. Every bottle is fuel. Every safe shelter is a fortress of protection. Medical care becomes their armor. Foster homes become their base camp.
With your support, these precious cadets can build strength, gain confidence, and prepare for their greatest deployment yet: life in a loving forever home.
Operation: Tiny Tails is underway. Enlist your heart. Stand with our smallest soldiers. Help them secure the bright future they deserve.

Sushi’s Baby Shower tells the story of a mother who arrived just in time. Rescued in Coronado, an area where animals are too often abandoned because people assume they will quickly be found and cared for. Sushi was brought to safety with her five newborn puppies when they were only one day old. The tiny spaniel-blend litter had already been born, and this devoted mama was doing everything she could to keep them warm and fed despite her uncertain circumstances.
Once in our care, Sushi and her fragile newborns were finally able to rest in a secure, nurturing environment where their earliest days could unfold in warmth rather than risk. With proper nutrition, veterinary support, and the quiet stability every neonatal litter needs, the puppies have been able to grow safely alongside their attentive mother.
Sushi and her babies represent the urgent need to protect vulnerable mothers and litters impacted by abandonment and the vital difference empathetic intervention makes from the very first days of life. Their story also shines a light on a growing concern in coastal communities like Coronado, where animals are sometimes left behind under the mistaken belief, they will automatically receive help. In reality, without swift rescue response, mothers and newborns face significant danger.

When Coral arrived at our center from a partner shelter in March, she was pregnant, frightened, and in urgent need of a safe place to rest. After everything she had been through, all she needed was a quiet space where she could finally feel secure.
Just one day after arriving, Coral went into labor. In the safety and calm of her new surroundings, she welcomed four tiny kittens into the world. For the first time in a long while, Coral and her babies were somewhere safe.
But the journey for a new mother and her fragile kittens is just beginning. These early weeks are critical for their survival. Coral needs nutritious food, veterinary care, and a peaceful environment where she can care for her growing family.
Providing that level of care takes many resources, and it simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of compassionate donors.
Your generosity helps provide the warm bedding, nourishing meals, medical care, and safe shelter that families like Coral’s depend on during their most vulnerable moments. Because of caring supporters like you, Coral and her kittens now have the chance to grow, thrive, and one day find the loving homes they deserve.

When a kind homeowner arrived at her second home in the desert, she made an unexpected discovery, one that would soon lead to a lifesaving rescue. The homeowner found a mama cat and her tiny kittens. With so little around for miles, it’s believed this little family may have been abandoned. Thankfully, the homeowner quickly reached out for help and began working with a rescue partner to make sure the cats could get the care they needed.
The devoted mama, now lovingly named Fruit Salad, had already given birth and was doing her best to care for her eight newborn kittens: Lime, Lemon, Strawberry, Shortcake, Banana, Split, Apple, and Sauce. Despite the difficult circumstances, Fruit Salad stayed close to her babies and protected them the best way she knew how.
Now safe with us, Fruit Salad is able to continue her important mama duties in a comfortable, quiet space where she and her kittens can finally relax. With consistent food, veterinary care, and plenty of love, this little family has the chance to thrive. It is very rare that a mother cat has 8 kittens.
At just four weeks old, the kittens are starting to show their personalities and curiosity. They’re beginning to explore the world around them, wobbling their way through new adventures and working hard each day to grow big and strong.
Fruit Salad keeps a watchful eye over her sweet little bunch as they continue to grow and discover their surroundings. Thanks to the care they’re receiving, these tiny kittens now have the bright future they deserve.
Stories like Fruit Salads are only possible because of compassionate supporters who help provide lifesaving care for vulnerable animals. From medical care and nutritious food to a safe place to grow, your support ensures that moms like Fruit Salad and their little ones have the chance to start again.

Bagel’s Baby Shower celebrates a young mother whose family was given hope beyond the limits of an overcrowded shelter system. Rescued from Tulare, where severe overcrowding placed her and her puppies at risk. Bagel, a one-year-old Chihuahua blend, arrived at the Center with her five babies when they were just 2½ weeks old.
Still in the most delicate stage of development, Bagel’s puppies depended entirely on their devoted mama for warmth, nourishment, and protection. Despite the stress of displacement, Bagel remained attentive and gentle, caring tirelessly for her litter as they transitioned into the safety of foster care. There, this young family could finally rest, receive proper nutrition and veterinary support, and continue growing in a stable, nurturing environment.
Bagel and her babies represent the reality facing countless dogs in overcrowded regions, where limited resources and space place vulnerable mothers and litters in jeopardy. Their journey underscores the lifesaving impact of rescue partnerships that move at-risk families from overwhelmed shelters into care where they can thrive.
Through Bagel’s Baby Shower, our community is invited to help provide the essentials this deserving family needs as the puppies continue to grow, honoring a resilient young mother and ensuring her babies’ earliest weeks lead toward healthy, hopeful futures.

Meet Mama MacDonald

In early December, this gentle mother was discovered in Coronado’s Spreckels Park alongside another nursing dog and her litter, both families seeking shelter near a small gymnasium after being left behind under unknown circumstances. Sadly, animals are often abandoned in this area because people assume that in a well-resourced community, they will quickly be found and cared for.
Underweight but remarkably trusting, Mrs. MacDonald was brought to safety thanks to the response of PAWS of Coronado, who reached out in hopes she could receive the secure, nurturing space every expectant mother deserves.
Welcomed into care just in time, Mrs. MacDonald was finally able to rest, recover, and prepare to welcome her puppies surrounded by warmth and compassion. As one rescuer shared, “We’re super grateful. We really wanted her to have a safe and loving space to have her puppies.”
Today, Mrs. MacDonald and her babies represent the very heart of lifesaving rescue: vulnerable mothers protected, newborns given a gentle start, and uncertain stories turned into futures filled with possibility. This baby shower campaign invites our community to help provide everything this deserving family needs to thrive, from nourishing meals and cozy bedding to essential veterinary care and early developmental support.
By celebrating Mrs. MacDonald and her little ones, we honor the power of compassion and ensure that families like hers begin life together in safety and with the love and care they deserve.

Meet Riley

Riley arrived at the Center in January, just 12 months old and already pregnant, after being transferred from our rescue partner, Friends of Normie in Long Beach. Before reaching Friends of Normie, Riley had been discovered at an abandoned house where she was alone, vulnerable, and carrying her unborn kittens.
Soon after settling into foster care, Riley gave birth to six tiny kittens: Taco, Tuesday, Chip, Dip, Surf, and Turf. Born into warmth and attentive care, the kittens have been able to grow strong and healthy alongside their devoted mother, far from the uncertainty they might otherwise have faced.
Through Operation Tiny Tails, vulnerable pregnant cats and their babies receive the specialized care, medical support, and nurturing environment they need during their most critical early weeks.
To celebrate this special new beginning, Riley’s Baby Shower invites our community to come together in support of this young family. Donations of kitten food, soft bedding, and essential supplies help ensure Riley can continue caring for her babies while they grow and prepare for bright futures of their own.
