Saving Spencer

Saving Spencer

Spencer is a Labrador Retriever blend who came to Helen Woodward Animal Center in rough shape. He stood much smaller than his two siblings, and he had constant diarrhea. Our veterinary team thought he might have a fecal parasite like Giardia or Hookworm. We tried our usual treatments, but Spencer’s body didn’t respond.

Our medical team started running countless tests and trying dozens of different treatments to figure out what was causing Spencer’s problems, racking up thousands of dollars of medical bills. Finally, they found the problem, Spencer suffers from a rare, internal malformation known as intestinal intussusception. Basically, Spencer’s digestive system is collapsing in on itself. If we didn’t treat this immediately, Spencer would die.

Our team rushed the Spencer into surgery, where doctors worked for five hours to save the young pup’s life. Spencer then spent the next several weeks recovering in foster care.

Now, after a long uphill medical battle, Spencer is now ready to find his forever family.
