Affy:

“Afrika”, “Afrika” is a 22-year old Haflinger, chestnut in color with a flaxen mane and tail. He has a white blaze on his face. He is 12.2 hands tall.

Affy spent time with his previous owners as a backyard and trail pony along with two other Haflingers. When his owners moved, he spent some time at a lesson barn while his family tried to find a new home for him. Wanting the best for him, they sent him here to be of good service while living the good life. Affy stands out not only with his small and round stature, but his expressive lips and ears.

Dalton :

Dalton is a 15 year-old Irish Warmblood. He is 16.2 hands tall. He is a dapple bay with a star, snip and four socks. Watch out for his head as he looks around at the walk.

Dalton was a jumper who broke his pastern in a turnout accident and was forced to retire to a quieter life style after his rehabilitation. He loves attention and treats. He is a sweetheart who is loved by everyone. He even has a fan club of devoted students.

Zee:

Zee is 24 years-old. He is a 15.1 hand, flea-bitten gray Lipizzaner-Thoroughbred cross.

Zee has been a lesson horse for most of his life. He had been working as a hunter-jumper at North Coast for the past few years where he had been loved by both the students and the instructors. Zee is an excellent teacher and will safely test his riders. Zee is our first choice for students who are ready to try a little jumping over little cross-rails. After 2 years of faithful service to the Therapeutic Riding Program, Zee is looking for his forever home.  If you are an adult with horse experience looking for that special equine partner, please contact the Therapeutic Riding staff to see if Zee may be right for you.

Presidente:

Presidente is a 23 year-old retired polo pony. Polo ponies are a mix of Thoroughbreds, Quarter horses and Argentina’s Criollo. Presidente is 15 hands tall and a leopard appaloosa.

Presidente came with his buddy Payaso from the polo fields of Lakeside. Presidente is very good at understanding when to go slow and take care of a rider or when he can push them a little faster.

Sammy:

Sammy is a 15.2 hh palomino Quarter Horse/Arab cross. He is about 19 years old and has a small white stripe down his face. Many have remarked on how closely he resembles fellow therapy horse Leo!

Sammy spent many years in the southern part of San Diego County, doing reining and dressage work, teaching many youngsters the ins and outs of riding. After a recurring suspensory injury ruled out heavy reining work, his owner contacted HWAC to see if he might be a candidate for our therapeutic riding program. He came on trial and has been doing well ever since. He is sensible enough for those learning, but can still be challenging for those ready to grow in their riding.

Spike:

Spike is a 15.1 hh 18 year old palomino Quarter Horse gelding. His expressive face is almost entirely covered with a large patch of white, which covers both eyes – including his stunning blue eye!

Spike has done a little bit of everything in his life, from ponying race horses on the track to barrel racing to kids’ lesson horse. His devoted owner, knowing how much he loves to have a job, called HWAC about leasing him to us for the Therapeutic Riding program. When he allowed himself to be covered with a tarp during our initial visit, we knew he was meant for this work! He hasn’t let us down, loving his lessons, playfully spinning hula hoops with his feet, and quickly earning legions of devoted fans.
