Awesome Animals
Have you ever thought about how much animals need us? Well, every summer I go down to our neighbor, Miss Kris’s house, to take care of her animals while her family is on vacation. It turns out that animals need us a lot!
Miss Kris had two cats and two rabbits. Both cats were very old. One, ‘Honey’, had arthritis in her hips which mad her grumpy. If you think ‘Honey’ is a sweet name, think again! Because of her arthritis she would often hiss and not let most people near her. After a couple of days and almost losing a finger! I was able to coax her into letting me pet her!
The other cat, ‘Woozle’, was very cuddly and liked being brushed. I enjoyed spending about one hour each day petting and brushing her. It was always fun to discover each morning where she had decided to sleep. One day I found her curled up between Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger!
In the back yard are Bob and Safira; two of the fattest rabbits I have ever seen. They have a gigantic enclosure with a penthouse apartment and lots of rabbit made tunnels. Every day I filled their bowls with food and water and put out fresh hay. Sometimes I brought carrots and lettuce from my mom’s garden. My favorite part of taking care of them was hand feeding them. Safira liked the lettuce best while Bob devoured carrots in record time! If I was patient enough they would let me pet them. They were softer than velvet! I can’t wait until miss Kris’s family goes on vacation again!
Over at my house we have two energetic rescue dogs, Makaso and Rex, who I love very much. They always greet me when I come home from school and I love hugging Makaso when I am tired or sad. Makaso and Rex love playing Flyball. I get to go and help at Flyball tournaments sometimes. I have also learned a lot about other kinds of animals from going to the Animal Lover’s Club.
Animals have made a huge impact on my life. I am hoping to work at an animal shelter or be a veterinarian when I grow up. I think animals deserve the best life possible because they make us so happy!
