Spring Fling 2007

Rancho Santa Fe, CA – “Bella Notte…A Venetian Masquerade” served as the perfect theme for H elen Woodward Animal Center ’s 19 th annual Spring Fling black tie fundraiser. The event, presented by The Private Banking and Investment Group at Merrill Lynch, attracted a sell-out crowd of 450 animal lovers on the “Beautiful Night” of Saturday, June 2 at the Fairbanks Village Plaza in Rancho Santa Fe .

“This year’s Spring Fling sold out faster than any of the previous 18 Flings,” says Co-chair Terri Davis. “Bella Notte – A Venetian Masquerade was a perfect combination of bright moonlight, animals, and the artwork of Gerrit Greve. Guests enjoyed food from 20 of the area’s best restaurants, fine wines, hosted bars, and live dance music.”

Co-chair Peggy Landon applauds the Fairbanks Village Plaza at 16236 San Dieguito Road for once again hosting the Fling. “We transformed their courtyard into 13 th century Venice where ‘Carnival’ began. In addition to black tie attire for this year’s Spring Fling, masks were optional for guests who wanted to capture the ‘Carnival’ theme.”

Landon says that the Live Auction at Bella Notte – A Venetian Masquerade surpassed expectations. “The Guest of Honor, internationally acclaimed artist Gerrit Greve, created a painting entitled ‘Reflections of a Venetian Evening’ that was a highlight of the Live Auction. Guests had an opportunity to meet Gerrit and discuss his work.”

Davis points out that the Live Auction also included a seven-day yachting holiday for two sailing from Rome, an escape to a beachfront villa in Puerto Vallarta for 14, and a 2007 Jeep Wrangler donated by Craig and Alicia Bernard.

The Venetian fashion of wearing masks brought with it many advantages and freedoms, which must have seemed close to paradise for many foreign visitors. Click here to see and purchase the works of mask designer Claudia Hapeman at SoCal Design Company.
