Site Visits - We Come to You, or You Come to Us!

Want to wow your class with a more personal animal encounter? We'll bring a bird, a mammal, and a reptile to give your students some hands-on learning experiences. It’s a great way to enhance lessons on classification, pet care/responsibility, habitats, or communication, but we can also adapt our presentation to fit the theme of your choice. Program lasts up to one hour.

Cost : $100 for a 50 min. presentation ($65 for each additional presentation on that day)

OR…why don't you come see us? See information below on field trips.

Animobile

Let us bring our 30-ft classroom to you! A fun, interactive presentation that highlights the expected and unexpected ways animals help people and people help animals. Education AND fun, all in one. Students get a chance to interact with animals as they learn!

The themes include Adaptations, Safety and Local Wildlife, and Classification. All animal presentations are age-appropriate and fulfill a variety of California State Science Content Standards in the Life Sciences domain. During the presentation, students will meet and pet a variety of specially selected animals.

We can accommodate up to 4 classrooms a day.

Cost : $385/day. Title 1 schools: Funding is available.

Field Trips

A visit to our 12-acre facility is a powerful experience. Spend an hour with one of our instructors and find out about how "people help animals and animals help people" here at Helen Woodward Animal Center . Students enjoy a behind-the-scenes peek at some special areas, as well as a chance to meet and pet some of the animals that live here.

Cost : $6/student with a $40 minimum.

Career Day

Many schools, especially at the Middle and Junior High levels, have a Career Day. Students at this point can greatly benefit from direction and instruction in the available animal welfare and medical careers available. One of our instructors will keep them current on the trends in the field, educational opportunities and tips on how to prepare for a fulfilling career working with animals.

Cost : $80 for 1.5 hrs.

Early Explorations

The Early Explorations outreach program is a series of four, 50 - minute classes: Mammals, Birds, Reptiles and Amphibians. The series is available to schools or organizations within a half-hour drive of Helen Woodward Animal Center .

At the end of the series children will be able to....

  1. Tell at least one identifying characteristic each of a mammal, reptile, bird and amphibian.
  2. Have an opportunity to touch a variety of artifacts and animals.
  3. Demonstrate compassion and gentleness toward animals.

Cost : $100/class or $380 for a series of 4 classes. Custom programs are also available.
